World's first railway transport started in mid 16th century in Germany. They used horse powered funiculars and wagon ways.
World's first steam powered railways developed in the year 1804 by "Richard Trevithick", he was a Mechanical Engineer born in Cornwall. Steam Engine was first made by "James Watt" a Scottish inventor and a Mechanical Engineer in the year 1769. It was a large stationery engine.
First Steam Locomotive Railway
World's first steam locomotive railway journey started on 27th September 1825 . This is the First Train to carry passengers on a public line. The train Ran between the Stockton and Darlington in North East England.
The Train was built by "George Stephenson" at his son Robert's company. George Stephenson drove the first train. The train has a capacity of 450 seats and the speed of the train is 15 miles per hour. George Stephenson a Mechanical Engineer was the "Father of Railways".
George Stephenson himself built a intercity railway line between the places Liverpool and Manchester in the year 1830.
First Electrical Railway
World's first electric trains was built in year 1837 by "Robert Davidson" in Scotland he was a Chemist. He made train with batteries where he used Galvanic cells. Later he built a large locomotive called "Galvani". The World's first electric train opened in Lichterfelde near Berlin, Germany in the year 1881, it was built by Siemens.
First Diesel Powered Railway
Diesel powered engine was first made in the year 1888 by "William Dent Priest man ". The engine was named as Priest man oil engine. This engine was examined by Sir William Thomson in the year 1888.
In 1906, Gebruder Sulzer founded Diesel-Sulzer-Klose GmbH to manufactured diesel powered locomotives. The World's first Diesel powered locomotive was operated in mid of year 1912 on the Winterthur-Romanshorn railway in Switzerland.
